The adventure begins
Kia Ora!
We’re packing up our lives and going to New Zealand (and Australia) for two and a half months! Seth taught me how to use WordPress, so I’m going to get real fancy with blogging. I’m going to fancy the pants off of you my blogging will be so good. I’m going to learn how to add photos, bullet pointed lists, cool font colors, and maybe even get as advanced as embedding videos. So if you’re interested in any of that fancy, check back in for very fancy updates.
Amongst the boxes and my last days of work (I’ll be returning to CCFA when we’re back, yay!), it’s starting to feel a bit more real…at least once we get through the 20+ hours of flying it will feel more real.
Things I am looking forward to on our 20+ hour flight:
- Free wine. I am a nervous flyer, so free Chardonnay becomes Chardonn-YAY!
- Seth as my human pillow. It’s going to be tight quarters, but he is just so charming and kind (and handsome) and he lets me use him as a human pillow. He makes my flight time 100% better. That guy.
- Endless free meals. Like, for reals. And they taste real good. Remember the days when we were 5 years old and they gave us wing pins to wear and airplane food was exciting? On International flights I only wake up to eat. If someone could get my a wings pin, that would just be swell.
- My iPod mix. Now Seth and I have put some serious thought into what will be on our iPod mix for New Zealand. We had to keep the crowd favorites (the crowd is Seth and me) of Neil Young and The Beatles. Other gems are This American Life podcasts (Seth), Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide (Seth), The Shins (me, because it was the first album of Seth’s that I “borrowed” and never gave back), Gillian Welch (both), and some fun lovin’ Marvin Gaye.
- Reading! We all know I love a good book, so I’m looking forward to finishing a book and half on the 20+ hour flight between fits of naps, Chardonnay swallowing, and shoving my face with free airplane food. I’m, like, a really fast reader. Seth will be reading Nothing Can Bring Back the Hour by an up and coming author from upstate New York.
- Losing an entire day. Superbowl Sunday goes into airplane land oblivion. We leave on February 1 and arrive on February 3. We’ll never know if Punxsutawney Peyton sees his shadow, so instead of 3 more weeks of winter, we’ll get 3 more months of summer.
Things I am NOT looking forward to on our 20+ hour flight:
- It’s 20+ hours.
- It’s 20+ hours.
- It’s 20+ hours.
Well, pals, feel free to send iPod, book, and movie recommendations for our 20+ hour flight. If you do, we may just bring you back a hobbit.
