My Lena Dunham Moment

This post is dedicated to Stephanie Regan.

Oh, Lena Dunham. My 25-year-old dream—everything I wanted to be at that age and more. How I love her charming wit, unapologetic womanly curves, and constant clutziness. (For anyone that watches Girls, I believe Lena Dunham to be the same person as Hannah.)  She is Detroit skinny (as she told Howard Stern, and it made me love her a little bit more).

Seth and I drove down an incredibly windy, gravel, water board road (which has become my new driving nemesis) to see the waterfall pictured below.

Piroa Falls

As we were enjoying the serenity of the falling water lapping into the surrounding pool, Seth turned to me, and said “What are you thinking about?”  I smirked. “Do you really want to know?”

(One thing you must know about me: I have a constant dialogue in my mind of fantastical proportions.)

“Well, I was thinking about Lena Dunham. I was thinking about how somehow, my blog would get so famous, and she would get wind of it (maybe I tweet at her, maybe a good friend sends it to her, who knows?). She would read it all in one sitting, in wide-eyed wonderment of how adventurous I am and laughing aloud at my hilarity. She would instantly say, ‘this is a girl we need to have write on Girls.’ Next thing I know, I get a phone call from Lena herself who says in her very Lena voice ‘Jessica, I love your blog. Come be my best friend and write for Girls, please.’ (She’s almost begging.) I am shocked, bewhildered, humbled, excited! I stammer a bit, but utter my most confident voice, and I say, ‘anything for you, Lena.’”

We pack up our bags and we move to New York where I become a semi-famous, semi-successful writer for the hit HBO show Girls.

This is for you, Regan…

My shoes match this plant!

My very own Lena/Hannah moment.
