A thousand cicadas

Have you ever hiked with a thousand cicadas? We did today! You never could see them, but you could definitely hear them. If Seth was 5 feet in front of me and said something, all I could hear were the cicadas! It was kind of incredible.

We hiked to a beautiful vista point, with lots of stairs, in Dome Forest.

Our view

The trail head started by a quaint café called Tip o the Dome, so we grabbed our first plate of fish ‘n chips! (This is where I start taking lots of photos of food and posting about how exciting food is.)

Flat white – thank you Megan Crepeau for introducing me to these!

Salad with a nasturtium-I looked at it and commented “how pretty,” and Seth ate the flower

We continued heading north into the Northland peninsula (north of Auckland), and we did a short hike to an incredible waterfall called Whangarei Falls.

Basking in the beauty

We then headed to Otamure Bay campground, where we parked our van at a spot in walking distance to the beach, and tucked ourselves into the beautiful bay for the sunset.
